Ghostwriter Necessary Skills

I get asked the question, “What does it take to be a ghostwriter?”

, in my opinion, only requires a passion for learning, research and good communication.  However, that doesn’t necessarily make you a good ghostwriter.  That would give you at least an edge up on the element.

requires a great deal of your education and self-motivation goes into your work and it shows.  Your experience in life as a general rule will continue to help you build your skills and what you feel confident writing about.  All of this is rolled into one ball and should be elementally marketed so that you can start making your mark in the fields of your choice.

Remember to keep in mind that the skills that people look for in a ghostwriter are:

  1. Education. Preferably in English and or .  Although formal education looks good on paper, it also helps to have samples of work that you have provided over the years.  Sometimes, in order to avoid plagiarism, you might need to ask for those samples from the writers, but they should be able to provide them.
  2. Adhering to time lines. Everyone feels their time is precious. your is as well.  Make sure you can adhere to the time lines set forth and if you are uncertain, don’t accept the project.  Making empty promises can ultimately cause your reputation to speed downhill quickly.
  3. Spelling & . If your writer is , they should definitely be able to show in all written and samples that are provided.  Just remember, sometimes it requires a second pair of eyes, or even a third to catch and rewrite things to make them more understandable.
  4. Research Skills. In my opinion, this becomes the most important element of a ghostwriter and/or writer.  Giving the initiative and efforts to do their research and to verify it in sources is always crucial. Nothing worse than sending out an article that is based on facts and having those facts published wrong.  Embarrassing for everyone involved.

Today, over 40% of the novels published today are produced by ghostwriters or have undergone substantial editing by ghostwriters.  The work is there and ghostwriters are plentiful.  Hopefully this will provide you with some base steps about finding the right one for your project!

Good Grammar: Part I

Writing skills are inevitably the best way to communicate ones thoughts.  Unfortunately, the English language gives us nice twists and turns about how certain words that sound very much alike are used in the wrong context.

Over the next few weeks, we will look at a few of these and the way they should be used in hopes of helping other’s learn the right and wrong way of good grammar and save themselves with elements that could be embarrassing or make/break that business deal.

1. Weather vs Whether

  • Weather is what we experience in our environment. Rain, heat etc.  All of it comes under the weather element (no pun intended). Example: The weather is beautiful outside. Normally used as a .
  • Whether: Identified as a choice as to ‘whether or not’ someone will do something. Only to be used after a preposition for example: We had a huge argument over whether we should relocate the office.

2. Lie, Lay, Lying and Laying

  • Lie meaning “to recline.”  Typically used as a verb that is not necessarily used with  out an object. To Lie meaning “to tell an untruth” uses lied for both the past tense and past participle, with lying as the present participle.
  • Lay meaning “to put” or “to place.”  It typically is used as a verb as well but typically attached to the object of the sentence. The two words have different meanings and are not interchangeable.

3. Wait and Weight

  • Wait: A verb that denotes to ’stay’ or  ‘to remain’.  To wait in the doctor’s office or to tell your dog to wait for you.
  • Weight:  A that will offer information about the density or mass that an item has. She was livid at how much weight she had gained over the holidays.

Memorial Day and Memoirs

Remember them all...

Remember them all...

I think this is a time in which not only we remember those who have fallen in the wars past, but that we continue to think of our blessed brethren on the front lines in a war many feel is very unnecessary.  Because of that, we here at ProTypists wear red on every Friday to join the ranks of those who need to come home soon.

In honor of our soldiers, not just in the Middle East, but those who have fought the wars of gangs, drugs and more here within our borders, we would like to make sure that other’s understand that we are an American company run by red-blooded who all have someone that they cherish away to war or have lost someone in service (police, firemen, coast guard and others that I might fail to mention.)

In honor of the fallen, and the those who still serve, we providing ANY Veteran that wishes to use our service a 25% discount in order to get their memoirs out there for others to read.  For the honor of fallen comrades to heroic deeds, these memoirs are important to the history of our (and your) nation and families alike.

So, if you are a Veteran, or know of one who has recorded their thoughts, written letters back and forth and or wants their elements recorded and assembled into any type of document, e-book, a publishing endeavor, or just website content, please pass this along.

This offer is good for ALL SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN IN NORTH, SOUTH AMERICAN CONTINENTS AS WELL AS ALL OTHER COUNTRIES, so please take advantage of it.  We would love to help you be a part of your history.

(Offer Ends May 30, 2009)
